H.E. Minister of Agriculture of Mexico and
the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Mexico
With the participation of 17 date producers from the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, and Mauritania.
H.E. Dr. Victor Villalobos Arambola, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the United Mexican States, opened on Wednesday, 09th November, 2022 in San Luis Rio Colorado, the first International Festival of Mexican Dates, in the presence of Dr. Francisco Alfonso Durrazo Montagnono, Governor of Sonora State, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Al Menhali, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Mexico, and H.E. Prof. Luis Alfonso García de Alba, Ambassador of Mexico to the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary General of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, Dr. Armando Moreno Soto, President of Sonora State University, and a number of members of the diplomatic corps, experts and specialists in date palm cultivation and production in Mexico.
His Excellency Minister Villalobos expressed his happiness for the valuable cooperation between the two friendly countries, the UAE and Mexico at various levels. His Excellency also extended his thanks and appreciation to H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Presidential Court, for his support to the festival and the development of the agricultural date Palm sector in Mexico. Where His Excellency also expressed his hope that this festival would be the first of an ongoing fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture in Mexico and the General Secretariat of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation to enhance food security and achieve sustainable development.
From his side, H.E. Ahmed Al Menhali, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Mexico, highlighted the fact that the First Mexico International festival came to confirm the depth of the bilateral relations between the two countries, and the close cooperation that links its people, under the wise leadership of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, “May God protect him”, and H.E. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, President of the United Mexican States.
He referred to the efforts of the Award’s General Secretariat in meeting the vision of the wise leadership in developing the date palm cultivation sector at the national, regional and international levels, which contributed to strengthening the UAE’s leading position in this sector worldwide. Pointing to the role played by the Award over fifteen years of continuous success by organizing a series of international date palm conferences and a series of date festivals in a number of Arab countries, with the support of H.H Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Presidential Court, and the continuous follow-up of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees.
Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary General of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, indicated that the Award has achieved tangible success in organizing a series of date festivals that exceeded thirty festivals in the United Arab Emirates, Arab Republic of Egypt, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Republic of Sudan, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and the Kingdom of Morocco. This confirms the international position of the Award and its ongoing role as a platform for building partnerships in the development of date palm cultivation, processing and marketing, at the national, regional and international levels, thanks to the Award’s patronage H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, “May God protect him”, the support of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Presidential Court, and the continuous follow-up of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees.
Regarding the festival program and its activities, the Award’s Secretary General, added that the festival includes, a competition for Mexican dates, in which 00,000 date farmers and producers in the United States of Mexico participated, in addition to the participation of 17 exhibitors and producers of dates and participants from the United Arab Emirates. Including (Al Foah Company, and Date Palm Friends Society), the Arab Republic of Egypt (Ahmed Mohamed Adel Mohamed Hamdi, Ramadan Mohamed Abdel Samee Al-Sayed), the Republic of Sudan (Hisham Jalal Al-Din Othman, Mohamed Sayed Ahmed Mohamed Nasr), the Islamic Republic and Mauritania (Mahmoud Mohamed Al-Qataf). and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (Yazn Hantash). In addition to a photography competition, in which 00,000 photographers from Mexico participated, in addition to an exhibition of Mexican dates in which 000000 farmers, producers, manufacturers, exporters and traders of dates in Mexico participated, in addition to a scientific symposium accompanying the festival in which 000000 researchers and academics specialized in date palm participated as well.
Honoring the winners of the competition
Honoring ceremony of winners of the Mexican Dates Competition, took place amid the joy of participants and winners. The results were as follows:
1- Best production of Mejhoul variety in Mexico, winner Desierto de Sonora SPR de RL, Francisco Javier Olea Galindo.
2- best packing of Mexican dates Sonora Valley, winner Ana Maria Morales Leon.
3- Best food product from Mexico dates, winner Date Salsa Abraham Perez.
4- Best operator (Packging house or factory) of dates in Mexico (manual or mechanical), winner International Agricultural Solutions.
5- Best personality serving date Palm sector, winner Eng. Natividad Jaime
6- Best non-Governmental organization serving the date Palm sector, winner Sistema Producto Datil.
While the three best personalities who contributed to the date palm plantation and date production sector in Mexico were honored:
1- Mr. Juan Luken Aguilar
2- Mr. Clemente Olguin Villa.
3- Mr. Ramiro Quiroz Gonzáles.
The winners of the photography competition in Mexico were also honored, and the results were as follows:
